This is a pastel done as part of the "Word of the Month" Challenge. A single word generally served as a prompt, in this case the prompt was the short Poe story "The Cask of Amontillado."

The ultimate goal of the challenge was to sharpen visual storytelling skills. There were no limits - artists had free rein to convey the concept through composition, color choices, character design and blocking, world building, and lighting decisions. Noah would invariably spend several weeks on a single drawing, developing his ideas with exploratory thumbnails before setting to work on his fully realized scenario.
