Crystal Kung

"There's always characters in my drawings, for sure...I remember as a kid I did a drawing of a bus, and I put everyone I know in that bus, like my mom, my dad, my brother...So there's always a character in there, and then creatures, things like that. And I would draw comics about people in my class, during the class."

CRYSTAL KUNG is a Taiwanese artist whose character design can be seen in films such as Blue Sky's Nimona and Pixar's Inside Out 2. Her early art mentor in Taipei was a neighbor who took in local kids every Saturday morning and had them draw (their dreams) or experiment with materials (in a wildly unconventional manner.) That uniquely untraditional approach and sensibility imprinted on Crystal and a remains foundational to her limitless sense of wonder, curiosity, and humor.
