Ink, Marker, and Pencil on Paper
A beautiful multi-panel sketch of a day out and about in Marseille. A train station, a graffitied facade, and a close up sketch of sardine tins tell the story of a meander through a city's colorful streets.
Of the rust red hue of this and other drawings Carlos has said that restricting his color palette was a deliberate move inspired by the hues of some of the earliest markings, which employed limited colors - the blacks of charcoals and the red rust of clays.
"I'll just walk around and I like looking around, and I like to be surprised. All of a sudden there's something, like a subconscious connection with something that I see. I also like finding the things that are not obvious. So I never paint or draw what you'll see on a postcard, but but rather the things that next to the postcard that nobody's looking at." -CFL
